Wat als je je leven leeft, maar op een dag de persoon ontmoet, jonger dan jij, minder competent dan jij, die wel heeft bereikt wat jij had kunnen bereiken. Maar je hebt het niet gedaan. De confrontatie voelen van wel de capaciteit en kennis hebben om iets te doen, neer te zetten, te betekenen in de wereld, te bereiken, maar het niet te hebben gedaan. En te weten dat er niemand anders verantwoordelijk is. Jijzelf bent het enige persoon die je er op kunt aanspreken.
Voorkomen: “Had ik maar”, stimuleert mij. Het stimuleert mij de beste versie te zijn van mezelf. Niet iemand te zijn wie ik niet ben. Maar vanuit wie ik ben, vanuit m’n hart, vanuit een verschil willen maken in de wereld, te blijven groeien. Grenzen te verleggen. Te willen winnen. Om het leven te leven wat je in potentie zou kunnen leven. Mijn ultieme leven.
Maar het was niet dat ik dat in één keer leefde. Verre daarvan.
(2) “Ben ik wel op koers?”
Vanaf +/- mijn 20ste ben ik geobsedeerd geweest met groei (al las ik mijn eerste succesboek drie jaar eerder dan dat, en daarover later meer). Vanuit passie, maar vooral ook vanuit ongeduld, ben ik constant bezig geweest met in zo weinig mogelijk tijd, zoveel mogelijk te bereiken. Constant vergeleek ik mezelf met andere mensen. “Ben ik op koers?”. “Waar stond Donald Trump toen hij zo oud was zoals ik nu? Waar stond Tony Robbins toen hij zo oud was? Blijf ik bij?”
Op dat moment was het een gift. Een grote bron van motivatie om te leren, te groeien en om actie te ondernemen. Het gaf me motivatie, snelheid van leren en implementeren. “Speed of Implementation” werd mijn handelsmerk. Het leverde veel op. Dat, en mezelf constant vergelijken, leverde me veel op. Maar het was ook een vloek. Want je kunt jezelf niet vergelijken met andere mensen. Iedereen heeft zijn eigen pad te leven. En doordat ik mezelf constant vergeleek met andere mensen was het voor mij nooit goed genoeg. Ik sloeg daardoor telkens weer stappen over, uit angst dat ik niet snel genoeg zou gaan. Ik saboteerde mezelf en maakte fouten. Gelukkig had ik goede mensen om me heen.
(3) Met wie besteed jij je tijd?
De meeste van mijn groei kwam voort uit me te omringen met de juiste mensen. Goede vrienden als Albert Sonnevelt, Eelco de Boer, David de Kock, en een ervaren zakenpartner die liever anoniem blijft, maakten allen op verschillende momenten een groot verschil in mijn leven. “Je bent het gemiddelde van de 5 mensen met wie je het meeste tijd besteed”, zeggen ze. En dat is zo waar. Deze mensen gaven mij feedback. Hielden me op koers. En in de kern leerden ze me indirect allemaal m’n hart te volgen, te doen waar m’n talent echt ligt en dat talent maximaal met de wereld te delen.
(4) Je ultieme leven
Waar gaat jouw leven over?
Wat wil je doen, wat wil je bereiken? Wat wil je achterlaten? Wat wil je aan het einde van je leven hebben gedaan? Hoe wil je zelf terugkijken op jouw leven?
Wat het ook voor je is. Je zult je lichaam, mind en algehele gezondheid nodig hebben. Je zult energie nodig hebben.
Veel energie en een geweldige gezondheid zijn voor mij middelen om het maximale uit mijn leven te halen. Een verschil te maken. Maar ook om de eerste te zijn. De beste te zijn en te willen winnen.
Winnen vraagt mentale scherpheid. Een gedisciplineerde mind. Handelen vanuit je hart. Eerlijk zijn naar jezelf, maar ook de wil om de beste te zijn en op te staan na tegenslagen. Het vraagt maximale energie, fit zijn, fysiek sterk zijn, jezelf mentaal stretchen, maar ook balans houden. Want er is niet alleen zoiets als maximaal leven, maar ook in goede gezondheid (zonder afbraak te doen aan jezelf), en maximaal lang.
Denk eens na over het verschil tussen 80 jaar oud worden, en 120 jaar oud worden. Als je 120 jaar oud wordt, ben je op je 80ste pas op tweederde. Verschillende mensen hebben niet alleen na hun 40ste hun grootste successen behaald (zoals Napoleon Hill in zijn bekendste boek beschrijft), maar sommige hebben na hun 70ste grotere successen bereikt als hun hele leven daarvoor.
(5) Je geld moeten besteden aan je gezondheid terugkrijgen?
Ik wil het maximale uit m’n leven halen. Maar ook voorkomen dat ik mijn gezondheid besteed om geld te verdienen en daarna m’n geld moet besteden om m’n gezondheid terug te krijgen. Dat is voor mij de omgekeerde wereld.
En je hele leven lang keihard werken om daarna meer tijd te kunnen besteden met je familie, maar ondertussen je kinderen niet zien opgroeien en de relatie met je partner achteruit zien gaan, waar het je eigenlijk allemaal om te doen was? Wat gaat daar mis? Waarom wachten tot je al het geld hebt wat je nodig hebt om nooit meer te hoeven werken?
Waarom wachten met genieten, vrijheid, reizen, tot je pensioen als je het ook nu kunt leven? Maar tegelijkertijd is er meer dan dat. Want hel op aarde is niet alleen de persoon ontmoeten die je had kunnen zijn, maar ook niet in je leven ten volle hebben gedaan wat je had kunnen doen, wat je had willen doen. Niet het verschil te hebben gemaakt wat je had kunnen maken.
(6) Superhuman
Wat hierboven staat, is voor mij Superhuman zijn. Uitspreken wat je wilt bereiken en er zonder concessies voor gaan. Opstaan. En gaan. En beseffen dat, om te bereiken wat je echt wilt, je eerst zelf zult moeten groeien. Voordat je iets kunt hebben of bereiken, zul je eerst het persoon moeten worden dat je daarvoor moet zijn.
Je zult eerst van binnen de mindset moeten ontwikkelen, de kennis moeten vergaren, de training moeten ondergaan voordat je kunt hebben wat je wilt hebben. Leiders gaan eerst.
